As moms, weâre conditioned to put everyone else first. We pack the lunches, soothe the tears, manage the chaos, and carry the emotional load of an entire familyâsometimes without even realizing how heavy itâs become.
Somewhere along the way, we lose little pieces of ourselves. We become mom, partner, caregiver, and chauffeur. And while those roles are sacred, they are only part of who we are.
Thatâs why solo travel is so powerful.
When I first took a trip on my own, I felt nervous. Was I being selfish? Irresponsible? Would everything fall apart while I was gone?
The answer was noâand the outcome changed everything.
You Return to Yourself
Solo travel isnât about running away. Itâs about returningâto the version of you who existed before the endless to-do lists. Itâs about remembering what brings you joy, what makes you curious, and what fills your spirit. When you go somewhere alone, even just for a weekend, you move at your own pace. You eat when youâre hungry, rest when youâre tired, and say âyesâ or ânoâ without negotiating with anyone else.
Itâs a radical act of self-love in a world that often tells mothers to be selfless.
You Become a Role Model in a New Way
Taking care of yourself is not selfishâitâs leadership. Itâs showing your children that women are allowed to dream, explore, and take up space in the world. That rest is not a rewardâitâs a right. That their mother is a whole person, not just the background character in their story.
Imagine your kids growing up watching you invest in your well-being, go after your passions, and embrace adventure. Thatâs not neglect. Thatâs empowerment.
You Come Back Stronger
Every time I return from a solo tripâwhether itâs a day hike or a weekend getawayâI come back more grounded. More patient. More alive.
Because I took the time to pour back into me, I have more to give to those I love.
And isnât that what motherhood is really about? Leading with love. But you canât lead well if youâre running on empty.
So if youâve been dreaming of a little escape, of hearing your own thoughts again, of moving through the world on your own termsâthis is your sign. You donât need permission. But if it helps, here it is: Youâre allowed. Youâre worthy. Youâre more than enough.
Take the trip.
Find yourself again.
And come home to your family with a full heart.
