⚓Houseboating on Sproat Lake with Fish & Duck Resort

A Peaceful Escape with a Touch of Adventure

If you’re craving a peaceful, off-grid escape that’s equal parts tranquil and adventurous, let me tell you about my recent stay on a Fish & Duck Houseboat at Sproat Lake, BC. It was a dreamy experience—floating in stillness, soaking in a hot tub with mountain views, and waking up to the kind of silence that only nature can offer.

But let’s be real—it wasn’t all effortless luxury. And that’s what made it unforgettable.

A Floating Cabin with Everything You Need

The houseboats at Fish & Duck are basically two-storey floating cottages—about 1,000 square feet with plenty of room for a group (they sleep up to 15!). Our boat featured:

  • 3 private staterooms with double beds
  • 1 bunk room with a single and a double bed
  • A penthouse loft with 2 more double beds—perfect for kids or the young at heart
  • 1.5 bathrooms (with toilet, sink, and shower)
  • A fully equipped kitchen with two fridges, a stove, and microwave
  • A cozy fireplace
  • A BBQ
  • Remote fueling station for watercraft
  • Front and rear access to the upper deck

Everything you need is right on board—just add snacks, swimsuits, and good company.

Bridge Deck Bliss

The upper (bridge) deck was by far my favourite part of the boat. Each houseboat includes:

  • A hot tub (with a view!)
  • A suntanning or dance area
  • A slide into the lake (yes, it’s as fun as it sounds)
  • A Bimini top for shade
  • And on some models, a wet bar for lakeside cocktails

Sitting in the hot tub with the mountains in the distance and clouds drifting by was pure therapy. At night, the stars were unreal. There’s nothing quite like it.

What You Should Know Before You Go

This isn’t a simple “check-in and chill” experience—there are a few things to be prepared for. But if you know what to expect, the whole thing feels like an empowering adventure.

🚗 Parking & Loading Up

After checking in at the marina, you’re directed to park in a designated area a bit of a walk away. You’ll then need to walk back to the dock. Not a huge deal, but a bit inconvenient if you’re lugging gear.

Speaking of gear—getting your stuff onto the boat can be a mini workout. The marina provides wheelbarrow-style carts to help, but you’ll need to wheel your things down a ramp and load everything onboard yourself. Pack smart and light if you can.

⚓ Beaching the Boat

If you want to beach the boat at one of Sproat Lake’s stunning spots (and you will), brace yourself. Beaching is not for the faint of heart. You’ll need at least two people who are physically fit, strong swimmers, and know how to handle ropes.

It was a bit of a mission for us—but once we were anchored and soaking in the view from a private little beach, it was worth every effort.

Would I Do It Again?

Absolutely. The mix of stillness and effort made the whole experience more meaningful. Being surrounded by water and forest, disconnected from notifications and to-do lists—it gave me space to breathe deeply and feel present.

It’s not a luxury resort, and that’s exactly the point. It’s nature. It’s adventure. It’s real.

Claudia’s Pro Tips for Your Fish & Duck Houseboat Trip:

  • Pack in duffel bags or backpacks—not rolling suitcases
  • Bring work gloves for tying ropes or anchoring
  • Pre-download music or podcasts (there’s no Wi-Fi or reception on the lake)
  • Designate roles: captain, loader, rope-handler, chef, or share the load!
  • Bring snacks + easy meals—the BBQ and kitchen are well-equipped
  • Don’t overthink it. Let go, relax, and lean into the magic

Final Thoughts

Houseboating on Sproat Lake with Fish & Duck Marina is more than a getaway—it’s a reset. If you’re someone who finds peace in nature, loves a little adventure, and doesn’t mind getting your hands a bit dirty, this is the perfect escape.
